Endowment

"I am extremely thankful and happy to have received the grant your family has donated to Holy Names Academy. I hope to show my appreciation through my hard work.” (a sophomore student)
Ethnic and economic diversity is the strength of Holy Names Academy.
The biggest challenge for Holy Names Academy is to maintain its economic diversity—the challenge to provide for the 30% of our economically diverse students, those students whose families need help to meet the cost of an HNA education.
-
Tuition for 2012-2013: $12,972.
-
Financial aid in 2012-2013: $1,100,000 distributed to over 220 HNA students
Endowed funds provide the Academy with a consistent source of aid for students through the return on investment which continues your contribution each year.

A Tribute to a Generous Alumna
Josephine Curran Devine ’51 was an outstanding woman who loved her family and her alma mater. Because of her strong connection to Holy Names Academy, Josephine’s children have established the Josephine Curran Devine Endowment Fund in memory of their mother, who passed away in 2011. Josephine married Joe Devine and they raised six children- two of whom are Holy Names Alumnae, Rita Devine Hayes ’74 and Megann Devine ’81. A big part of Josephine’s life was her connection to the Academy, where she made many of her lifelong friends. She is remembered among HNA alumnae for her graciousness, loyalty, and sense of fun. In establishing the Josephine Curran Devine ’51 Endowment Fund, her children recognized how fitting a tribute to Josephine’s generous spirit is giving back to the Academy. The fund is intended to provide assistance to students who have been accepted to the Academy and need financial aid in order to attend. Her name will live on through the endowment fund.

Class of 1961 Inspires Others
It seemed like just a lofty dream when several alumnae from the Class of 1961 gathered informally and the conversation turned to ways to celebrate their 50-year anniversary since graduation. They wanted to do something special—to make a lasting gift to the Academy. Since named scholarship endowments—which are invested to provide a stable annual source of tuition assistance for deserving HNA students— require a commitment of $25,000, it was no small goal to set for a single class. Particularly for a group that has, as luck and circumstance would have it, sent comparatively few daughters or granddaughters to the Academy.
They were determined. Beginning in 2007, the six classmates, Dorene Centioli McTigue, Joan Spiller Saxton, Suzie Burke, Carol Hunoff Westlund, Karla Kay Russell, and Pat Solon, gathered each fall and spring at the Academy’s biannual Phonathon fund-raising efforts to call 1961 graduates and seek support for a collective endowment.
The response was nothing short of amazing. Not only did the project meet the $25,000 goal to create an endowment, but by their 50-year anniversary gathering in May 2011, the class had raised a remarkable $50,000. The first scholarship from the Holy Names Academy Class of 1961 Endowment was awarded to a legacy student of the Class of 2015.
The dedication and ambition of the Class of 1961 set the stage to inspire other classes. At its 40th reunion in 2011, the Class of 1971 began fundraising in hopes of raising $25,000 by their 50th reunion. The Planned Giving Office is happy to assist any other class interested in taking on this challenge.
