HNA’s Reign Robotics: Safely (re)Charging into 2020-2021 Season

Members of Team Reign, the Holy Names Academy robotics team, worked hard to finish the design and construction of their robot for the 2020 competition season, only to have the season’s events largely cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. For that reason, that season’s engineering challenge, “Infinite Recharge,” will be used again for the forthcoming 2021 season. Team Reign members are looking to (re)charge into this year’s season safely and successfully. Schedule details are pending, but Reign Robotics will continue to build camaraderie and plan virtually until team members can meet in person to work on their robot.

The theme “Infinite Recharge” requires competing teams to protect their city from an imaginary  asteroid shower. To do that, robots must collect and store power cells to charge a shield generator—and then return to a rendezvous point to activate the generator switch before time runs out.

Interested in Joining HNA's Reign Robotics?

Team Reign, founded in 2015, was the first all-girls robotics team in Washington State recognized by the international FIRST Robotics organization. The FIRST Robotics Pacific Northwest District includes over 100 area high schools. The robotics program at HNA offers a wonderful opportunity for students to learn about business, programming, and engineering. The team also provides a place for students to spend time working together in a supportive and positive environment. HNA’s 2021 team boasts a strong core of seasoned veterans as well as fast-learning rookies. Coach Eric VanBuren is assisted by a dedicated group of mentors and parents.

Students interested in Reign Robotics can contact  Ms. Marissa Koon for more information.
